"Buck" Young, formerly of this city, but for many years a resident of New York. Mr. Young died on board of a steamer while en route from Charleston to New York and the news was a shock to his friends. The gentleman had many friends in this city, where he married Miss Sue Hopkins. His wife and daughter survive him. *********** YOUNG- Suddenly, in New York, May 24TH, 1894, THOMAS A. YOUNG, age 51 years. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, this city on arrival of New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk steamer MONDAY MORNING. Norfolk Virginian Sunday May 27, 1894 The body of Col. Thos. A. Young who died in New York a few days ago, arrived yesterday via the Cape Charles route and was received by a number of prominent citizens, friends of the family. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, the services at the grave being conducted by Rev. A.S. Lloyd, of St. Luke's P.E. Church and the following gentlemen acting as pallbearers: R. Worthy Smith, Capt. Thomas L. Dornin, Gen. E.M. Henry, Maj. Charles Pickett, R.A. Cobey, Gen. V.D. Groner, William H. Mayer, and George M. Todd. The New York Herald says: "Mr. Young was born fifty-one years ago in Norfolk, Va. and served on Gen. Mahone's staff. He came to this city after the war and went into the produce business. He was at one time president of the Jewelers' and Tradesmen's Company. At the time of his death he was private secretary to the president of the National Wall Paper Company, a director of the Mercantile Benefit Company and vice president of the Travelers' Accident Insurance Company and a member of the Southern, Manhattan, Athletic and Harlem clubs. Mr. Young belonged to the Holy Trinity Church, of Harlem. He leaves a widow."
