After taking a trip to Peru, her family was happy to have her home. She was the daughter of the late Roger Leopoldo Angulo and Isolina Alvarez Angulo and was a native of Trujillo, Peru. She attended the National University of Trujillo where she studied law. In 1993, she immigrated to the United States. Carolina was a devoted mother who wanted her daughters to have the best opportunities possible. To that end, she always pushed them to do their utmost, whether in academics or in any other endeavors. Throughout her life, she ensured that her daughters came first, for which they will always be grateful. Outside of her family, Carolina was known and loved by many in the area for her great and giving heart. She was always looking to help others, even as she fought a brave and uphill battle against cancer. Within the Hispanic community, in particular, she was a translator, counselor, and guiding hand for anyone who came to her door in need of assistance. Her hobbies included reading, cooking, and shopping. She was a devotee of Isabel Allende and Mario Vargas Llosa, among many others; her personal book collection would fill many a shelf at the library. And though she did not always enjoy the act of cooking, she never failed to appreciate the effect her cooking had on others. As for shopping, she had a knack for finding the best deals in town. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Natalie Greene and husband Ryan of Virginia Beach, Maria Utecht and husband Seth of Newport News, and Patricia Zarate of Virginia Beach; son, Victor Alvarez of Peru; and two grandsons, Alonzo and Eric Greene. Carolina was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, where the funeral Mass will be held. Father Mario Fulgenzi, OSB, will lead the ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Virginia Beach chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bon Secours Maryview Foundation, P.O. Box 7728, Portsmouth, VA 23707.
