Joseph George Zoby Jr., 72, of the 7300 block of Major Ave., died July 6, 1993, 
in a Norfolk hospital.

Mr. Zoby, a native of Norfolk, retired in 1987 from BeLo as head produce 
merchandiser after 35 years of service. Mr. Zoby was loved and respected by all 
his associates and took great pride in the training of young people coming into 
the grocery field, with some progressing into top management positions. He was a 
member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Norfolk; Knights of Columbus, 
Council 3548, Ocean View; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter (NU)4, Norfolk; 
Sons and Daughters of Lebanon; Tidewater Food Dealers Association; and National 
Apostolate of Maronites. He was a graduate of Maury High School and was an Army 
veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary M. "Marilyn" Zoby; three daughters, 
Margaret "Laurie" Matson of Chesapeake, Patricia Zoby Claypool of Virginia Beach 
and Linda Zoby Clark of Norfolk; a son, Joseph George Zoby of Marietta, Ga.; a 
sister, Birdie Zoby Ackaway of Virginia Beach; and seven grandchildren, 
Christopher, Daniel and April Zoby, Joseph and Mary Claypool and Melanie and 
Barry Clark Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Blessed 
Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Julian B. Goodman. Burial will be in St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held in H.D. Oliver 
Funeral Apts., Norfolk, Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
