His records of marriages, baptisms, and funerals before 1854 are missing. In the back of the ledger are recorded names and birth dates of his wards, as well as dates they came "of age." VITAL STATISTICS ABSTRACTED FROM THE LUTHER NOTTINGHAM LEDGER A ledger exists which was kept by the Reverent Luther Nottingham from 1839-1862. Unfortunately his record of the marriages, baptisms, and funerals preached before 1854 are not in the volume. They could have been on the new missing pages or could have been listed in “the previous ledger” to which reference is made in several places. The ledger is presently owned by Mr. Thomas Rayfield, Nassawadox, Va. 23413. Abstracted by Jean M. Mihalyka in February, 1984. A paper entitled “The Reverend Luther Nottingham – An Enlarged Portrait”, based on the facts found in the ledger has been placed in the Eastern Shore Public Library. MARRIAGES: From January 10, 1855 thru December 31, 1862 the Rev. Nottingham celebrated 63 marriages for which he received an average of $3.17 ½ per ceremony. The list has been checked against the Marriage Book in the Clerk’s Office, Northamption County, Va. The following have not been recorded: 1856, August 17.
