ROBERTS, 19 Sep 1929 Virginian Sentenced on Bigamy Charges ____ Harry W. Roberts Given Two Years in Maryland Peniten- tiary After Conviction ____ Salisbury, Md., Sep. 19.-(AP)- Harry W. Roberts, of Eastville, Va., said to be a member of a prominent family in the Old Dominion, was sentenced to two years in the Maryland penitentiary after pleading guilty to an indictment charging bigamy today. An indictment against him charging perjury growing out of statements he made while obtaining a license for his second marriage here was not prosecuted after sentence had been passed on the bigamy count. Roberts was married to Mabel Elizabeth Hemming at his home in Eastville in 1913. In December of 1927 he married Anna Elmira Wilson of Salisbury while his first marriage was still in force. During their honeymoon, Roberts was arrested on a charge of passing worthless checks and was confined in an institution for treatment of mental diseases at Marion, Va., from which he escaped. He was unheard from until several weeks ago when he was arrested in Wilmington, Del.
