The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Deed, Nelms to Mays, 1777 Northumberland County Deed Book 10, page 191 This Indenture made and entered into this Tenth Day of March in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred and seventy seven Between William Nelms and Grace his wife of the Parish of St. Stephen in the County of Northumberland of the one part and John Maize of the Parish of Wiccomico in the County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Nelms and Grace his wife for and in consideration of the Sum of One Hundred and Ten pounds Lawful money of Virginia to the said William Nelms by the said John Maize in hand well and truly paid at an before the sealing and Delivery of these Presents the Receipt whereof the said William Nelms and Grace is wife do hereby confess and acknowledge themselves therewith fully contented satisfied and paid have Granted Bargained and Sold Aliened Released and Confirmed and by these Presents do Grant Bargain and Sell Alien Release and Confirm unto the said John Maize his heirs and assigns forever all that Plantation Tract or parcel of Land Situate lying and being In the Parish of Wiccomico in the County of Northumberland Containing One hundred acres more or less adjoining the Lands of Kemp Hurst Ones. Harvey Jameson, James Sutton and the Lands of the said John Maize with the rights members and appurtenances of the same and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders Rents and Services of all and Singular the said Premisses with the appurtenances and also all the Estate Right Title Interest Claim and Demand Whatsoever of them the said William Nelms and Grace his wife of in and to the same Premisses with the Appurtenances To have and to hold the said Plantation Tract or Parcel of Land and Premisses above mentioned with the appurtenances unto the said John Maize his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of the said John Maize his heirs and assigns forever and the said William Nelms and Grace his wife do for themselves and their heirs covenant and grant to and with the said John Maize his heirs and assigns that he the said John Maize his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times hereafter Peaceably and Quietly Enter into have hold occupy posses and Enjoy the said Plantation Tract or parcel of Land and Premisses above mentioned with the appurtenances without the Lat Suit Trouble Hindrances Molestation Interruption and Denial of them the said William Nelms and his wife their heirs and assigns and of all and every other person or persons whatsoever and further that they the said William Nelms and Grace his wife and their heirs and all and every other person and persons and his and their heirs any thing having or claiming in the said Plantation Tract or parcel of Land and Premisses with the appurtenances shall and will hereafter at the Reasonable Request and at the Charges of the said John Maize his heirs or assigns make do and execute all and every such further and other conveyances and assurances in the Law whatsoever for the further better and more sure and perfect granting conveying and assuring of all and singular the said Premisses above mentioned with the appurtenances unto the said John Maize his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said John Maize his heirs and assigns forever as by the said John Maize his heirs or assigns his or their counsel Learned in the Law shall be Reasonably Devised or advised and required. In Witness whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. William Nelms Grace Nelms Sealed and Delivered In presence of us William Brown Jos. Hudnall Abra: Beacham Received this 10th March 1777 of the within named John Maize One hundred and Ten pounds Lawful money of Virginia being the full consideration money ~ within mentioned to be paid to me. I say received by me. William Nelms Witnesses Present William Brown Jos. Hudnall Abra: Beacham The Commonwealth. To Joseph Ball, Winder Kenner, and William Esteridge Gent. Greeting. Whereas William Nelms and Grace his wife by their certain Indenture of Bargain and sale being dated the Tenth day of March Have sold and Conveyed unto John Maize the Fee simple Estate of One hudnred Acres of Land in the parish of Wiccomico and County of Northumberland and whereas the said Grace cannot conveniently Travel to our County Court of Northumberland aforesaid to make acknowledgment of the said Convenyance. Therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you Power to receive the acknowledgment which the said ~ Grace shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance aforesaid contained in the said Indenture which is hereunto annexed.
