Record Book 26, pg 295 James has service in the Revolutionary War in the Virginia Navy. He served as a Midshipman in the Protector (Sally) from 19 Jan 1777. He was Lieutenant Captain 27 Aug 1778 as shown by the Journal of the Navy Board. He continued service until after 10 Sep 1779 as shown by his pension record. (From History of Virginia's Navy of the Revolution, by Robert Armistead Stewart). His name in the Navy record appears as Daugherty, Daughity and Duarity. Northumberland Co., Va., Order Book, 1835-1844, Pg 6: Ordered that it be certified that James Daughity a Lieutenant in the Va.
