Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. **************************************************************** In the name of God amen I Joseph Hurst of Northumberland County and parish of Wiccomico being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to almighty God for it do make and ordain this to be my last will & Testament in manner and form following Imprimis I commend my soul to God who gave it me and my body to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as for my Temporal Estate where with it hath pleased almighty God to bestow on me I give and dispose in the following manner vizt. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son John Hurst part of the Lands which I bought of John Kiwest and John Bowen being from the Gum which is at Champions ditch and up the [illegible]cid on the right hand side of the road being ninety acres more or less with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him and his heirs forever. I also give him two negroes Solomon and Nette and the right of a negro fellow Curry which Richard Nutt shot if their [sic] can be any thing recovered with Beds and stock which he has already received the Quitrent must be paid for by my son John Hurst if ever demanded. I also give him my part of the scooner with all appurts. thereunto belonging on Conditions he pay of every Acct. which is against me and also give him my part of the certificate which is in the hands of (Cassius?) David Ball I also give [illegible] twenty pounds which is in the hands of Mr. Ezekiel Haydon, Esq. also give what money is due me by Ezekiel Hudnall and Joseph Hudnall & also I give him the Execution which is against John Gordon and what Mr. Rees of Wicomoco in Westmoreland owes me to go to pay Mr. Read and Mr. Roan and the balance to go for the benefit of my youngest children. I also give unto my son John Hurst Ony. Harveys bond or what can be recovered of it to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Hurst the Land and plantation I now dwell on with three Negroes as follows Isaih [sic], Hannah and Lucky with their future increase and to his heirs forever and also two feather Beds and furniture to be raised out of the whole of my estate to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Hurst my three negroes Spencer, Meshick & Prudence and two feather Beds and furniture to be raised out of the whole of my Estate to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Richard Hurst my three negroes David, Sam and Aggy and their future increase and two feather Beds and furniture to be raised out of the whole of my estate to him and his heirs forever. Item. it is my Will and desire that none of my moveable Estate should be appraised but divided equally among my youngest Children and also desire that my two sons Joseph and Richard Hurst should be bound out to Trades and as they come of age all my younger Children put in possession of their estates and the proffits thereunto belonging and it is my desire that my two sons Joseph and Richard Hurst should go to Georgi and bring twenty pounds of Virg.a. Currency to my daughter Judith Corbett which is to be raised out of the whole of my estate to her forever and it is my desire that no more should be given to her out of my estate. I also desire that my youngest children should have their Guns and chests given to them and their heirs forever. Lastly I do appoint my son John Hurst my brother Henry Hurst and my brother in law Mosely Nutt to be Executors to this my last will and Testament. I do revoke make out and void all other wills made by me heretofore. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th April 1789. Jos. This last will and Testament of Joseph Hurst deceased was proved by the oath of Bartholomew Dameron as witness thereto & at a Court held for the said County on monday the 8th of February following the said will was further proved by the oath of George Dameron another witness thereto and is Ordered to be recorded.
