Will Of Thomas Hays Jr. 1789 - Northumberland Co., VA In the Name Of GOD, AMEN, this 28th day February, 1789, I Thomas Hays, of St. Stephens Parrish in Northumberland County, Virginia, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in form and manner following. Item1. I give to my loving wife Chloe Hays all my whole estate consist in what it will so that she shall not be interrupted nor disturbed during her single life but if she marries to have as the law directs. But it is my desire that my youngest son, John Champen Hays shall be learned to read and write and cypher out of my estate and it is my desire that at the decease of my said wife that my land be equally divided between my four sons namely, Thomas Hays, George Hays(our ancestor), James Hays, and John Champen Hays if the land can be divided, also I give to my daughters Betty Hays, Molly James Hays, and Chole James Hays, ten pounds a peace of my said estate, then if my land can be divided among my sons as above mentioned for all the rest of my estate to be equally divided among all my children mentioned except Thomas Hays who has already had his part of my estate but if my land cannot be divided as above mentioned then for my other sons George and James and John Champen Hays and my three daughters above mentioned to divided my whole moveable estate among them.
