L. Cole Cemetery Location: .5 mile from Blackstone, Virginia on Route #360, Petersburg Road, across the road from “Baldy Service Station”. Nottoway County, Virginia DATE: About 1840. OWNERS: H. McCullough owned and kept it for years. Later owned by a man named Wade from West Virginia. Mr. Helen W. Patton, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: (blank) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Tradition says that the old house was the first place court was held in Nottoway County. The old tavern was a stopping place for stage coaches going from Richmond to Lunenburg. McCullough Cemetery, just behind the tavern we find a very delapidated cemetery. It shows signs of quite a number of graves, but only three markers are left. In the memory of George H. McCullough born January 19, 1822 Died May 16, 1871 His wife’s grave is by the side of his, but no marker. These graves were once enclosed with a brick wall but just enough of the wall remains to show that it once was here. SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: E.
