E. Rorer Cemetery Location: 3.5 miles east of Crewe, Virginia, on Fergusonville Road, thence turn right through oak grove to house, graveyard in garden. Nottoway County, Virginia DATE: 1848, date on oldest grave (marker). OWNERS: (blank) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is in the garden at “Mountain Hall” the old Jones home. It is enclosed in a hand-hewn rock wall, about two feet thick. Dr. Jones, his wife, Catherine Jones and their two daughters are buried here. Marker on Dr. Jones’ grave. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sacred to the Memory of James Jones, M.D. Graduate of the University of Edinburgh Born 11th Dec. 1772 Died 25th April 1848 A man Whose character none can contemplate with out admiration or admire without profit. A statesman Honored for his talents cruditions and patriotism. A christian Deeply imbued with the spirit of the gospel in the closing scene of life. He exhibited the humble tranquil submission which religion inspires. His devoted wife erects this frail memorial of his virtues.
