L. Cole Cemetery Location: Northwest from Blackstone, Virginia 3 miles Nottoway County, Virginia DATE: 1850. OWNERS: Epes private cemetery. DESCRIPTION: Stones found in the garden at “The Old Place.” HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Markers with the following inscriptions were found in “The Old Place” cemetery: In memory of Travis Harris Epes son of Thomas P. and Jacquelin S. Epes born May 13 and died June 23, 1850 For of such is the Kingdom of Heaven In memory of Martha Campbell Epes daughter of Thomas Freeman and Jacquelin S. Epes born May 27, 1851 died November 20, 1856 In memory of Jacquelin S. Epes wife of Thomas Freeman Epes born December 19, 1818 died July 4, 1857 Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God I am told that Francis Epes, Jr. (Colonel Epes) his wife Sarah and his wife, Mary are buried here at “The Old Place” however, there are no markers but I am told there were lots of graves without markers.
