NOTTOWAY COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Oliver-Cralle Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Oliver, Cralle cemetery: 1936 July 21 Research made by A. L Cole Cemetery Location: On the Snead Spring road across from Mrs. P.B. Halletts and 1.5 miles from St. Marks Church. Nottoway County, Virginia DATE: About 1861. OWNERS: This burying ground was reserved by the Oliver family having been a part of the Oliver tract, sold to and now owned by the Hendericksens. DESCRIPTION: It is a very pretty site, especially the rock wall that encloses it. The wall was built of the crude rock gotten off the place, the work being done by Grief Cralle and George Washington Oliver. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Cralles and Olivers had lived on adjoining places and had been very close friends. They expected that the two families should use the spot for burial purposes, but I find no record where the Cralles ever used it. I found only one marker there, but was told there were other graves in the enclosure. In memory of Mrs. Hannah Oliver Who died November 17, 1861 Age 42 years and 22 days SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: Mr. and Mrs. Bob Oliver, Crewe, Virginia Tombstone Inscriptions Visit by worker. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
