Powell Cemetery Location: 4 miles east of Blackstone, Virginia, on Route #40; thence 2 miles on Route #37, at intersection of Routes #636 and #643. Nottoway County, Virginia DATE: 1838. OWNERS: Congregation of White’s Chapple Methodist Episcopal Church. DESCRIPTION: This is a modern church and replaces the one built prior to the War Between the States. After the building of the new church, the cemetery was started. There are many graves not marked. A wire fence encloses the plot. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Among the graves are those of: Frank T. Jones Born Aug. 15, 1836 Died Mar. 7, 1915 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Mary L. Jones Born March 14, 1845 Departed this life March 22, 1921 Cast thy burdon upon the Lord, He will sustain thee. I have never seen the righteous forsaken, no his seed begging bread. Anna G.
