Power of Attorney

1866 POA RFWms to EFWms                               Nottoway  DB 1 pp 21-22 
 

Know all men by these presents, That I, Robert F. Willilams of Fly-away in the
County of 
Mariposa State of California, have mad (sic) constituted (sic) and appointed,
and by these 
presents do make, constitute, and appoint Edward F. Williams, of the County of
Nottoway in 
the State of Virginia my true and lawful Attorney for me, and in my name,
place and stead do 
ask, demand, Receive and Receipt for all such sum or sums of money and Real or
personal
property coming to me, due, owing, payable or in any belonging to me out of
the Estate of my 
beloved Mother Catharine C. Williams, late of the County of Nottoway in the
State of Virginia, 
but now deceased, and upon the receipt of any moneys, Goods, Chattels or Real
or personal
property to give me in my name Receipts, acquitances or other sufficient
discharges to any person
or persons duly authorize by Law to receive the same--
Giving and Granting unto my said Attorney, full power and authority to do and
perform all and 
every act and thing whatsoever requisite and necessary to be done in and about
the premises, as 
fully, to all interests and purposes as I might or could do if personally
present, with full power 
of  substitution and revocation, hereby ratifying and confirming all that my
said Attorney or his 
substitute shall lawfully do or cause to be done by virtue hereof.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Second day of
January one thousand 
eight hundred and Sixty six---

On the Second day of January A. D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Six
before me, George 
Counts a Justice of the Peace in and for said County, duly commissioned and
sworn, personally
appeared the within named Robert F. Williams, whose name is subscribed to the
annexed instrument, 
as a party thereto, personally known to me to be the individual described, and
who executed the 
said annexed Instrument, acknowledged to me that he executed the Same freely
and voluntarily and
for the uses and purposes therein mentioned---  In witness whereof, I have
hereunto set my hand, 
and affixed my Seal, the day first above written.

I, Angerine Reynolds County Clerk in and for the County and State aforesaid,
do hereby certify that 
George Counts, Esq. the person subscribing the annexed Power of Attorney, and
before whom the action 
was taken, was at the date hereof, and is now a Justice of the Peace in and
for the County aforesaid, 
duly commissioned and sworn that by virtue of his said Office, he is
authorized to take acknowledge- 
ments and administer oaths.  I do further certify that I am acquainted with
the hand writing of the 
said George Counts, and verily believe the name thereto subscribed on said
annexed instrument is his 
proper and genuine signature, and further that his attestations are in due
form of law---
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my name and affixed the Seal of the
County Court of the
aforesaid County, this third day of January A. D. 1866---

The foregoing Power of Atty from R. F. Williams to E. F. Williams was this day
filed in the said 
Office and with the certificates & acknowledgements annexed, admitted to
record.  Revenue stamps
amounting to twenty five cents affixed and cancelled according to law.
