P. Fitzgerald a Commissioner of the Circuit Court of Nottoway County of the first part and Thomas W. Williams of the second part, Wiotnesseth: whereas the said J. P. Fitzgerald as a commissioner of said court acting under and by authority of a decree entered at the Sept term 1873 with said styled "Jones surviving com'r vs. Williams & others" sold on September 5th 1878 a certain tract of land in the County of Nottoway Called "Vermont" containing four hundred fifty acres more or less and situated on Nottoway River which said tract of land was purchased by the same Thomas W. Williams at the price of Twenty five hundred dollars of which $150.00 was paid in cash and the balance secured by three bonds each for the sum of $783.33 dated and bearing interest from Sept. 5th 1878, but due and payable one on Sept 5th 1879, another on Sept 5th 1880, & the other on Sept 5th 1881 which said sale was reported? to and con- firmed by court in said suit and the said J. P. Fitzgerald was directed as commissioner to collect said bonds as they should become due and payble. And whereas by another decree entered in said suit on April 2d 1881 the said J. P. Fitzgerald com'r directed whenever the said Thomas W. Williams should pay to him ???????????? (we dont have those lines...) land in said bonds promised to be paid, to conveyed unto him by deed with special warranty legal title to said tract of land bought and paid for by him as aforesaid. Now in consideration of the premises and of the sum of twenty five hundred dollars by the said Thomas W. Williams in hand paid unto the said J. P. Fitzgerald Com'r the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged in full satisfaction of the purchase price of said land as of Sept 5th 1878 the said J. P. Fitzgerald com'r as aforesaid doth grant bargain sell and convey with special warranty unto the said Thomas W. Williams that certain tract of land lying on Nottoway river in Nottoway County containing four hundred and fifty acres more or less, called "Vermont" and bought and paid for by him as aforesaid. Knight a Notary Public in and for the County of Prince Edward State of Virginia do certify that J. P. Fitzgerald whose name as commissioner is signed to the foregoing deed dated June 1st 1881 his(sic) day personally appeared before me in my said County and acknowledged the same.
