D. 1885 between Joel B. Williams of the County of Nottoway, Virginia, party of the first part and Dr. J. M. Smith Sr. of Martinsville Virginia, party of the second part. Witnesseth: that for and in consideration of the sum of Two thousand dollars cash in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Joel B. Williams has bargained and sold and doth by these presents grant, bargain sell and convey with general warranty unto the said J. M. Smith Sr. a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Nottoway, Virginia, and on which the said Willams now resides Containing three hundred and thirty nine acres and bounded as follows to wit: On the North by the lands of Norman Epes, East by the lands of Thomas Williams, South by Nottoway River and West by the lands of Emmet Epes, also all the personal property now on said place consisting of stock of cattle, horses, hogs, crops of corn and tobacco now on hand and growing crop of wheat, plantation tools and utensils, household and kitchen furniture, buggy and harness and all other personal property of every kind and description, upon said place belonging to the said Joel B. Williams. And the said Joel B. Williams covenants that he is seized in fee of the said land, that he has done no act to encumber the same and that he will execute such other and further assurances thereto as may be requisite or necessary. Williams to Dr. J. M. Smith Sr. was this day lodged in the said office acknowledged before me by the said Joel B. Williams to be his act and deed and admitted to record.
