Jeffress of Nottoway County Virginia, being of sound mind and disposing memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. I will and desire that my just debts be paid. Whereas on Sept. 29th. 1897, I purchased of C. H. Sackett Commissioner of the Circuit Court of Appomattox in the Chancery cause of W. D. Wilson's Admins Jas. H. Wilson's Admr. a tract of land in Appomattox County, containing 1001 acres, and whereas three deferred payments of the purchase money and yet to become due I will and direct my executor hereinafter named to perform and complete said contract of purchase; and the bonds executed by me for said deferred payments shall be a charge upon my estate and be paid upon any of the devisors or legacies provided in the will shall take effect. and bequeath to my employee John Daniel Forster Two Hundred Dollars ($200.), in acknowledgment of his long and faithful services to me and my family, to be paid him by my executor within three months after my death; and I give him the privilege of having a home at "Oakland" if it please him, As long as it shall remain the residence of my husband. I give and bequeath to Paul Stauffer an orphan child, now a member of my house hold, in token of dutiful and obedient conduct One Hundred and 399 Fifty ($150. 00 ) Dollars; in addition to Fifty dollars. Already contracted to be paid him at his eighteenth anniversary, - this to be paid him within twelve months after my death. Of the rest of my estate, I devise and bequeath, one half part thereof, of both realty & personally of every description whatsoever in Virginia and elsewhere 400 including the land in Appomattox County above mentioned to my husband W. Horace Jeffress in fee. The remaining one half part of the same I devise and bequeath to my husband W. Horace Jeffress in trust to be held and Ex= pen dio(sic) for the support and maintenance of my brother Robert N. Wilson, of South Carolina, during his life, free from his debts already contracted or which he may contract hereafter; and to this end I authorize and empower my said husband Trustee for my brother, to sell the said one half portion of said real estate, or any portion thereof, at, any time, if in his judgment it be necessary to pro- vide for the maintenance and support of my brother; and for like purpose I also empower him to sell said one half part of said real estate or any portion thereof and invest the proceeds of the sale in some safe manner, at any time, if he should deem it advisable for the better execution of this trust. Being impressed with the unhappiness and misfortunes always attending upon family disputes over Property, if at any time there should arise dis- agreement and controversy between my husband & brother touching the execution of this.trust by the former I earnestly enjoin upon them both to refer the cause to friendly reference and arbitration; and to this end I designate my friend Walter A. Watson of(sic) of Nottoway County and appoint him sole umpire and arbitrator between them and direct that they shall abide his decision in all matters which may arise in controversy between them concerning this subject. If any portion of the estate thus devised and bequeathed in trust for my brother as aforesaid shall remainied(sic) unconsumed and unexpended during his life, I will and direct that by will at his death he may dispose of the same and give and devise it to whom it please him. I hereby constitute and appoint my husband W. Horace Jeffress of(sic) Executor of this my last will and testament and request that he be allowed to qualify as such without security. Watson (Seal) In Nottoway County Court Oct. 4, 1900: A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of Victoria H. Jeffress decd. was this day produced in Court for proof and was proven by the oath of Walter A. Watson one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and the same was ordered to be recorded as the last true will & testament of Victoria H. Jeffress decd. And on the motion of W. Horace Jeffress the Executor named therein who entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $7000 - 401 conditioned as the law directs with no security none being required of him by the will, a certificate for obtaining a probate of said will is granted him in due form. He also took the oath of an Executor. Ordered that S. Hendrickson, D. 0. Robertson and W. P. Dixon being first duly sworn for the purpose do appraise in current money such of the estate of the said Victoria H. Jeffress as may be exhibited to them by the Executor Teste: Charles F Deane D. C
