Will of Edward Thomas Jeffress, 1869 - Nottoway Co. VA Jeffress Store Nov 10 1869 I desire and intend that the following Instrument shall be my will To wit; I will that all my just debts be paid, out of any funds in hand or arising from the sale of my plantation, on which Mr W. J. Downes now lives and if necessary that my land on big Nottoway River on the Lunenburg side be sold to aid in the payment of my debts, I give to my son L. M. Jeffress my Richards plantation with some additions, Starting from the river at the dead Sycamore tree on W. H. Scotts line & thence with his line to the road leading towards S. Carters, thence with Mrs. L E Knight line to opposite my fence running by Mrs. Hollands barn down to Elisons old leepond now Mrs. Wooldridge thence with her to Mr W. P. Dickerson Mill Pond & with his line back to the road near Sneeds and thence with the main road to the river, Thence up the river to the river to the begining(sic) on Mr W H-Scotts line, Now if it should not be absolutely necessary to sell my Lunenburg Lands in payments of my debts, I will that they be sold & Divided between the Children of my late son Luther C. Jeffress Excepts W. H. Jeffress who is to receive nothing under my will, and if my Lunenburg lands have to be sold to pay my debts I will that W H Jeffress pay to his brothers & sisters an equal part of the four hundred Dollars he rec'd. of me in 1865 & Int. I now lend to my wife Mary J. Jeffress during her life all the balance of my landed Estate with two thirds of my house= hold & kitchen furni@ure & the balance of my furniture 266 267 I give L. M. Jeffress and at the death of my wife I give all the lands & my homestead to my said son L M Jeffress to him and his heirs forever should he wish to settle on my Richards plantation. My wife will deliver to him the one third of my furni- ture & that she bestly(sic) spair(sic) with not less than two beds & other furniture as above stated. And at the death of my wife, I give to L. M. Jeffress as before stated all of the lands Household kitchen furniture as above bounded to my wife- and any re- pairs necessary to the house at Richards must be done & paid for out of my Estate. I leave William C. Jeffress and Joseph Jen- nings as my Executors & they are not to charge Lee any commissions & I request of the Court not to require either of them to give securi- ty on this my will, and that they may dispose with the usual Inventory & Appraisment. But they may make an Inventory them- selves & if they think proper call in a friend to aid them which Inventory they may return to Court if they think proper I dont(sic) wish that my son L. M. Jeffress shall sell any of his lands without the coneurence(sic) of Joe Jennings and of my Exors and I request that my Exors. shall attend to the interest of my wif e wit I hope the Court will permit this paper to be recorded as many of my friends are acquainted with my writing E.
