I desire that all my just debts be paid by my executor herein after named. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Carter Oliver and his heirs the land and plantation I purchased of John Curel (formerly the property of Bartlett Crenshaw) one Nego man named Solomon & the first Colt which my riding black mare had. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Charles Oliver and his heirs the land and plantation I purchased of Cornelius Crenshaw one negro man named John & the spotted colt get by Old Friday. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Asa Oliver and his heirs the following Negroes (with their increase from the date hereof Nan and Dosha. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Oliver and her heirs the following Negroes with their increase from date hereof Molley, Annay, Jenny & James and my riding Black Mare. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Oliver and her heirs one Negro Woman and her increase from the date hereof named Caster. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Polly Car…….one Negro…… [cut off at top of page 348 on photocopy] Item. I give and bequeath to Gibson Minor and his heirs the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid him by my executor out of my estate when demanded. Item. I lend to my wife Judith Oliver for her life two hundred fifty acres of the land on which I now live being a part of the tract of land that my father devised me in his last will and testament, to be laid off to her in the most convenient manner, so that the line to be drawn between the said two hundred & fifty acres and the residence of the said tract shall be run thro the two out-doors of the colonnade that divides the two apartments of my dwelling house & the part to be laid off to my wife shall be the part on which the old part of my dwelling house stands, which at this time is called by wife’s house with the following Negroes and their increase form the date hereof Viz. Old Jack, Allen, Hannah, Sondon, Black Betty & Dolley, one third of my stock of all kinds not already disposed of, one third part of my household kitchen furniture, one third part of my Plantation utensils and one third part of my Crops of every kind which shall be on hand at my death. I direct that my wife shall have the use of so much of the Plantations herein bequeathed to my two sons Carter and Charles as shall be sufficient to work the Negroes herein lent her, for the term of four years & no longer the time to commence immediate by my death, all of which land, Negroes, stock, furniture, Plantation utensils and crops of every kind lent to my wife. I lend to her in trust for the special and particular purpose of raising & educating my five young children hereinafter named, and raising for them an additional sum of money or property by way of improvement to the trust estate and I do further direct that what money raised by my wife from the trust estate after educating and raising my five young children shall if it is thought most conducive to my five childrens interest be laid out under the direction and advice of my executors in Land or Negroes and at my wife’s death I direct that the Negroes loaned her with their increase from the date hereof the stock of every kind, furniture, plantation utensils, and Crops which I have loaned my wife for her life, with the money which may be raised on property of any kind either land or Negroes which may be acquired by the care & industry of my wife from the said trust estate, shall be equally divided between my five children, Matilda, Rebecca,, Sally, William and Elisha, which equal share I give to them & their heirs. Item I give and bequeath to my son Isaac Oliver and his heirs the residence of the tract of land on which I live and not heretofore lent to my wife and that part of the Dwelling house called mine and at the death of my Wife the residence of the said tract of land and house which I have lent to my Wife for her life. Item I give and bequeath the residue of my stock of every kind, Household and Kitchen furniture, plantation utensils, Crops of every kind, money on hand and outstanding debts not already disposed of, to be equally divided between my seven children Carter, Charles, Asa, Polley Carter, Nancy, Isaac & Elizabeth. Lastly I constitute and appoint my son Carter Oliver and my friends Abraham Hatchett, Grief Green & Rawleigh Carter Senr executors to this my last will and Testament hereby revoking and annulling all former wills heretofore by me made and declare this to be my last will & Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto to set my hand & affixed my seal this twenty second day of April one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine. Signed sealed & acknowledged & delivered as the last Will & Testament of Isaac Oliver Senr in the presence of William Carter William Borum Samuel Bruce In Nottoway County Court June 6th 1799 This last Will and Testament of Isaac Oliver deceased was offered for proof by Rawleigh Carter and Abraham Hatchett two of the executors herein named and proved by the oaths of William Carter, William Borum and Samuel Bruce the witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said executors a certificate is granted them for obtaining a probat of this will they having taken the oath of executors and with Dabney Morris, Greif Green and William Carter their securities entered into and acknowledged a bond according to law.
