Deed Book 21, page 487

This Indenture made this 10th of June in the year 1799 Between Thomas Smith 
Sen'r. of the county of Orange of the one part and James Smith of the county 
of Albemarle of the other Part.  Witnesseth that the said Thomas for divers 
good causes and considerations thereunto specially moving and for the sum of 
one cent to him the said Thomas in hand paid by the said James the receipt 
whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained, sold and Delivered unto the 
said James the tract of Land on which the said Thomas now lives containing by 
estimation Two hundred acres be the same more or less To him the said James 
his heirs Exors or assigns, Provided always it is to be unequivocally 
understood that this Deed is not to operate till after the Death of the said 
Thomas, and that the said Thomas is to have a life estate in the said Land and 
after the termination of the life of the said Thomas it is to be then 
understood the said James is to have the Land directly upon the Death of the 
sd. Thomas to him the said James his heirs and assigns for ever.  In Witness 
whereof the said Thomas hath hereunto put his hand and affixed his seal the 
Day & Date above.

At a court held for Orange County at the Court house the 28th of October 
1799.  This Indenture was proved by the oath of Jas. Barbour & William Smith & 
Thos. Barbour, witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded.
