2nd letter - Belonging to Margaret Newman 6-28-98 Addressed to: Mrs. Jane M. Garland Everettsville Albemarle ( a letter in answer to one of Jane's expressing condolences on death of writer's sister ) Mowbray April 13th 41 Yours of the 7was received. My dear Jane in due time, was pleased indeed to hear direct from you, & that you felt yourself so hearty, hope you may long continue so. I have always believed you possessed a sympathising heart. In respect to my dear departed Sister, her Death was so long expected, & sufferings so intense, it w, of been cruel to wish to detain her, particularly as we are infull assurance that the change is for her great happiness, poor Hardin writes under great excitement the day she died, and promises to write again as soon as she sufficently composed. I have been looking every post for a letter, begin to be fearful she is sick, for she never neglects communicating if she feels it will give pleasure. We are quite pleased with our new Minister, at present he is quite sick. There was a disappointed congregation on good friday & easter day. Mrs. Smith came here,, the first time I've seen her since x-mas. She has been waiting on her Daughter Julia, who has little Walter, the 7th child enough for you and me both. She is now gone to Mr. Morton to have things in readiness for their reception, will be looking for them in a week. The general health of Mr. H. and Self is very good. I have sometimes weak Eyes, they are a good deal so at present. Your Uncles hearing pretty much as when you last saw him. We shall be loking for Mr. & Mrs. Holbrook in a few days, its seldomm any of his relations visit us, the last time they were here you saw them, they speak of making a vis, but I'll try to induce them to give us a long visit. You must not forget to come when your House is pulled down, we'll talk about Taylorsville when you get here. Friends generally in usual health. At present time there is a prospect of plenty of fruit but the weather is s fickle can't say what a day may bring forth. Yesterday we had a snow of about four inches today its nearly disappeared. M. Smith begs youuuu will always remember her with affection, in which I join to solicit a share. Compliments Mr. Garland, farewell. I.
