Herndon is busily engaged in writing his Life and Confession. A late Yankee 
pictorial had a cut representing Herndon in the act of touching the dead body of 
the victim, to see whether the wounds would bleed afresh. This barbarous practice, 
according to the Yankee paper, still prevails in the South.
