All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: John Cox jcox1@cox.net March 23, 2013, 9:28 pm Source: Orange County, Va Will Book # 3; Pages 59-60 Written: October 8, 1782 In the name of God Amen, I William Cox of the parish of Saint Thomas in the county of Orange being of present mind and sound memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life do make this my last will and testament; first I commit my soul into the hands of almighty God trusting in his mercy and in the merits of my redeemer for the XXXX of all my sins; my body I commit to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named; and as to my temporal estate I bequeath and dispose of in the following manner – Imperious my desire is that my land in Albemarl County should be sold after my decease to the highest bidder at twelve months credit and the money arising from the sale thereof to put to interest. The interest to be applied to bringing up my children; that is to say my daughters Frances, Rachel, Sarah; my sons William and Jacob Coxes and if either of the said five children should marry or die before my son William Cox becomes of age or the death of my beloved wife Sarah Cox; then the said interest to be applied to the surviving ones of the said five above mentioned children; Until my son William comes of age my will is that all the rest of my estate both real and personal should be sold to the highest bidder at twelve months credit; and equally divided amongst all my children: that is to say Matthew Cox; Catherine Bryson; John Cox; Nancy Cox; Thomas Cox; Francis Cox; Rachel Cox; William Cox; Sarah Cox; Jacob Cox; and the price of the land above ordered for sale to be equally divided amongst the first five said children or the surviving part of them: if my beloved wife should live till my son William comes of age then the whole of my estate to be equally divided amongst the whole of my children. Imperious I lend to my beloved wife Sarah Cox all and every article of my estate both real and personal during her natural life: except the land in Albemarl before mentioned after all just debts are paid; and my desires that my said wife should bring up my said five children; that is to say Francis; Rachel; William; Sarah; Jacob; on the expence of the estate with the interest of the land before mentioned; Imperious my will is that if either of my children should die before heir of their body lawfully begotten; their part should be equally divided amongst the rest; and I do hereby constitute and appoint Isaac Davis Sr. of Albemarl County and William Bell of Orange County my joint executors of this my last will and testament and I hereby disxxxxx and revoke all former wills and bequests and legacies by me here to fore made or left; declaring this and no other to be my last will and testament; in witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal this eighth day of October Anno Dom. 1782.
