PAGE COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Abshire Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Abshire graveyard: 1937 Feb 3 Research made by Cannie C. Morris Cemetery Location: 2 miles south of Stanley, Virginia, north of Route #628. Page County, Virginia DATE: Unknown OWNERS: The present owner is Mr. Will Painter. (1937) DESCRIPTION: This was a public burying ground at one time; although it was always privately owned, it was used by the community in which it was located. It is in very bad condition, all grown up in trees and bushes, and it could not be told that there ever was a graveyard here. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Here we find a very old graveyard back on the hillside of Mr. Will Painter’s farm. No one know how old it is. The older generations of the Abshires, Pences, and Campbells are buried here. Campbells were the last ones to be buried here in 1887 and I am informed that it was a very old graveyard then, and all indications bear out this statement. There are no names or dates on any of the markers. SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: Mr. Jim Good, whose father owned this old place through most of the 1800’s, and it has been in possession of the Good relatives ever since. Stanley, Virginia.
