Morris Cemetery Location: 8 miles south of Luray, Virginia. East of Route #616. In middle of open field, back of C.V. Shaffer’s canning factory. Page County, Virginia DATE: About 1775 OWNERS: 1831, Commissioners for Christian Aleshire deeded to Reuben Aleshire. 1837, John Brubaker deeded to Joseph Aleshire is same land estate of Christian Aleshire. 1894, Rubin Aleshire deeded to Susan V. Aleshire, the graveyard being reserved for a family burying ground. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is on a hill top with an iron fence around it, and an iron gate on the north side. The graveyard is about 75 feet square. The older graves have no inscriptions only limestone markers. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Christian Aleshire raised a very large family. His son, Joseph Aleshire served in the War Between the States and was killed in battle, January 15, 1862. Rubin Aleshire owned the place for a long time, and it now belongs to his estate.
