PAGE COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Buswell Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Buswell graveyard: 1936 Nov. 6 Research made by Cannie C. Morris Cemetery Location: 1 mile west of Leaksville, Virginia, north of Route #616. Page County, Virginia DATE: 1816, date of oldest inscription. OWNERS: The present owners are Kit Kincofe and Bradley. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This is a private burying ground. Part of it is in very bad condition, grown up in bushes and briars, while the real old graves of the Buswells are very well taken care of and in good condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: We find the Buswell graveyard a very old one in the center of Page County. The oldest grave that we find any record of is 120 years old. There might be a few that would date back before 1816 but we have no definite way of finding out. Strange indeed to read the inscriptions on the old markers in the graveyard. They all read in memory of my father or my mother or my sister or brother, as the case may be. This is the only graveyard that the writer has visited up to this date that reads like this. One of George Buswell’s girls had all of the tombstones erected to the memory of the Buswell family several years after their deaths.
