Morris Cemetery Location: .25 mile north of Stanley, Virginia, on Route #12. Page County, Virginia DATE: 1860. OWNERS: The Trustees of Graves Methodist Episcopal Church. (1936) DESCRIPTION: The older graves do not have tombstones. The cemetery is in very good condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Here we have an old cemetery, The Graves Chapel, as it is called, and at one time was called the old Oakum Church and cemetery when it was located on the Hawkskill Creek, but is was moved about 1860 and now is called Graves Chapel. There are some very old graves here, but no inscriptions on the older graves. General Hampton used this old church in the winter of 1863 as his headquarters, and during his stay here two of his men died and was buried in this old cemetery. The following inscriptions are to be seen on two of the tombstones: Francis A. Wife of Peter Long Born March 15, 1833 Died March 8, 1863 Aged 29 years 11 months & 23 days Paschal Graves Departed this life August 28, 1860 Aged 64 years & 2 months SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informants: Mr. William Price Mr. S.C.
