PAGE COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Hamburg Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Hamburg graveyard: 1936 Dec. 7 Research made by Vivian Black Cemetery Location: On U.S. Route #211, in the heart of Hamburg Village, Virginia. It is on the north side of the highway and extends east to County Route #645. Page County, Virginia DATE: Prior to 1836. OWNERS: It is now owned by Ace Lawson. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This is a rather large graveyard and has quite a few trees in it. It is not enclosed and cattle are free to run over it. At one time it was public, but it is privately owned now. It is in an unkept condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This graveyard was opened more than a century ago by John Brubaker. He however is not buried here. For many years it was used for white people only, but for some reason it was turned over the the colored folks and they still use it. I found only one stone dating prior to 1860. This was a homemade one. I feel sure other stones might by found here dating prior to 1860, if it were cleared off so one could get through. 1829 Thomas Blakemore Departed this life Feb. 8, 1___ SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Informant: John Brubaker, Hamburg, Virginia ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
