Morris Cemetery Location: Just north of Jollett, Virginia, on Route #609, near the hill top. Page County, Virginia DATE: 1836, oldest inscription. OWNERS: Jacob Smith is the name of the first owner. Elizabeth Smith, his daughter, married Rev. J.W. Jollett, a Methodist minister who deeded the land for the Church and cemetery to the Methodist Church, South, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This cemetery is very well cared for. There are some very old graves, but they have only limestone markers with no inscriptions. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Jacob Smith was the original owner of the land on which this cemetery is located. He was the father of Elizabeth Smith who married Rev. John W. Jollett, a Methodist minister. He was a very noted preacher, and much loved by all who knew him. He gave the ground for the Church and the Cemetery to the Methodist Conferance South. Jacob Smith was the grandfather of Michael Meadows who was shot during the War Between the States, and is buried in this cemetery.
