DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is located in the woods, and could not be discovered unless attention had been called to it. It has evidently been many years since there was any care given it. It lies at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and must be very old. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: It is probable that many of the Woods family who first owned he place are buried in unmarked graves here. Nancy, the wife of Wharton Jones was Nancy Woods before her marriage. It is thought that Wharton Jones was buried here about 1840. Nancy Jones was also buried here, but Solan Bell had the Jones bodies moved to Luray cemetery about 1890. There are now a few stone markers left without any inscriptions which are supposed to be members of the Woods family. The tombstones marked are members of the Strickler family who perhaps have no relatives in the County or the graves would receive some attention. The following are the inscriptions: Mary Jane daughter of Emanuel H. & E. Strickler Died Jan 3, 1863 In Memory of Elizabeth H. Wife of Emanuel H. Strickler Died Aug. 12, 1862 In the 20th year of her age.
