PAGE COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Major Andrew Keyser Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Major Andrew Keyser graveyard: 1938 Feb. 14 Research made by Vivian Black Cemetery Location: 4.5 miles northwest of Luray, Virginia. 3.5 miles west of Bixler’s Ferry, on east side of Route #616. Page County, Virginia DATE: 1828, date of oldest inscription. OWNERS: Raymond Strickler, present owner. (1938) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is about 40 x 20 feet, surrounded with an iron fence. It is covered with honeysuckle and under growth. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: In this graveyard is buried Charles Keyser, the pioneer, and his son, Major Andrew Keyser, who enlisted in the American Army in 1780. He served under Captain Conway Oldham and in Lieutenant Robert Jouett’s Company, in Colonel Richard Campbell’s Regiment. He fought in the battles of Guilford Court House, Camden, Ninety[Six and Rutaw Springs. He was born December 16, 1758 and died November 23, 1833. He married Sarah Rinehard in 17__. Charles Keyser, the pioneer, was born in Germany, in 1702. He came to America in 1751 or 1752. He was a British soldier under General Braddock. His grave was opened on October 9, 1876, one hundred and two years after his death. The skull, teeth and hair were in a wonderful state of preservation. Our father in his wisdom called The boon his love has given And though on earth her body lies Her soul is safe in heaven Col. Andrew Keyser Died July 2nd, 1876 Aged 72 years, 3 mos. & 20 days The father ---- and soldier friend. Andrew son of A. & L. Keyser Born Aug. 9, 1849 Died Jan. 17, 1852 Aged 2 yr. 5 mo. 8 da. Charles Keyser Born Sept. 21, 1806 Died Oct. 18, 1891 Aged 85 yrs. 1 mo. & 16 days A precious one from us has gone A voice we loved is still A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled.
