Morris Cemetery Location: 1.25 miles west River Bridge, Grove Hill on north bank of River Route #12, Shenandoah, Virginia Page County, Virginia DATE: 1829 OWNERS: C. B. Purdham, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is in very bad condition, almost completely overgrown with underbrush. A number of graves have been moved from this cemetery, and few of those which remain have markers of any kind. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This graveyard was probably started in the life time of George Shuler, who once owned all the land in this vicinity near the foot of the Massanutton Mountains. Many of the Shuler graves have been moved to the Brick Church Cemetery, five miles north of Shenandoah, Virginia on Route #12. Many of the older Purdhams are buried here but there are no markers. The only tombstones with inscriptions are as follows: Here lies the Decd Margaret Smith Died Feb. 2, 1830 August 2, 1829 John Steep Died in his 18 tenth year.
