Morris Cemetery Location: 5 miles northeast of Shenandoah, Virginia Page County, Virginia DATE: 1821, oldest inscription. OWNERS: J. W. Strole, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This cemetery is in bad condition, overgrown with bushes and briars. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: About 1770 Christian Strole came from Germany as a stowaway on a ship. The Captain wanted to take him back to Germany but he pleaded so effectively that he was allowed to remain with a friend who settled near what is now New York. Later he came to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and lived there for awhile. He then came to the Shenandoah Valley where he lived with Michael Kiser (Keyser) and married his daughter, Elizabeth Kiser (Keyser) on the 24th day of March, 1788. They had several children, among them John, Jacob, and George Strole, each living to a ripe old age. They have many descendants throughout the United States. The following are the inscriptions on the tombstones in this cemetery: 1821 Here lies S. Graves In memory of C.
