Turner Clayton "Jack" Hall was killed in a gunfight on Sunday, February 6, 1927 that also claimed the lives of Dave Cox and Maynard Cox. Ernest William Shelton accompanied Hall in the gunfight and was put on trial in a sensational trial in Patrick County Circuit Court that aroused much interest. Five years later, Shelton's life abruptly ended when he was also involved in a triple homicide. A book was written about the gunfight in Fayerdale called "The Fayerdale Tragedy" which is a collector's item for Patrick County historians.
