PATRICK COUNTY, VA - COURT - Perrin Cardwell Importation of Negroes,

Patrick county this day Perrin Cardwell came before me and made oath that on 
the 2nd day of January last he brought into this State one negro man Will age 
about 21 years said negro was given to said Cardwell by his father Thomas 
Cardwell of Stokes County State of North Carolina and that this said Negro was 
not brought into this State not to avoid the law but for to ___?_ this State 
for his own use given from under my hand this 13th date of January 1817.
