James Taylor, foreman, William McAlexander, Isham Cradock, Humphry Smith, William Frazier, John Chitwood, James Ferrell, John F Camron, James Turner, John Tatum, George Rogers, Jesse Corn, Edmond Chitwood, William Sharp, Abill Perigoy, Edward Lewis, & John Hall, were Sworn a Grand Jury of Inquest for the body of this County whereupon they withdrew to Consult on Their PSentiments. John Wilson Sworn Constable for This County. Samuel Hanby Qualified as Deputy Sherif of this County. Elijah Dehart appeared agreeable to his Recognizance, & together with Richard Burnett his Security Severally acknowledged themselves Indebted to James Wood Esqr. Govenor of This Commonwealth & his Successors for the time being in the sum of Eight pounds pr Annum for the Term of 4 years, on Condition that the said Elijah do will and faithfully Keep Harmless, the Overseer of the Poor of the County of Patrick from all costs & Charges that may accrue in Consequence of his having two Baster Children begotton on the body of Sarah Vest, then the above Recognizance to be Void or Else to remain in full force Power & Virtue. Administration of the Estate of Samuel King is Granted Isham Cradock, who made Oath According to Law & together with Barnard M. Price his Security entered into Bond and acknowledged the same according to Law. John Koger, Zaphaniah Tenison, Barnard M. Price & Jacob Adams or any 3 of them are appointed to appraise the said Estate and make report thereof to the Court. Jonathan Hanby Gt. Sherif of the County appeared in Court and together with Wm. Carter, Samuel Staples, Thomas Mitchell, Robert Scott & Edward Tatum his Securitys entered into Bond for the Collection of the Revenue tax for the year 1796 and Acknowledged the same according to Law. (24 February 1797) On the Mo. of Elijah Dehart by his Atto. to set aside the Recognizance entered into yesterday for his Indemnifiing the Overseer of the Poor from the Charges of 2 Bastard Children begotten on the body of Sarah Vest on hearing the arguments on both sides the Court was of the opinion that the Proceedings were Illegal therefore the Recognizance is Dismissd. George Fulcher is appd. Surveyor of the Road from Patrick Courthouse to Joseph Going & the list filed be his Gang. Ordered that Mrs. Critzs hands & John Miller be added to Jacob Critzs list of hands. On the Mo. of Gl. Penn leave is Granted to Keep Ordinary at his home in the Town of Taylorsville, and together with Joshua Rentfro his Secty. entered into Bond & Acknowledged the same according to Law. A Report of a View of a Road thro the lands of Jeremiah Burnett retd. & O.R. Joshua Adams is appd. to Call on George Fulcher & his Gang, Eliphaz Shelton & his Gang, William (?) Pilson, & they together with his Gang to clear and open a Road from Patrick Court house to the Montgomery line near [Patterson] Quarter according to Law, and the list.....
