ORDER BOOK 1 (SELECTED ENTRIES, 1803) MARCH COURT (31 March 1803) Thomas Turner is exempted from the paymt. of County & parish levies for the future. Administration of the Estate of Thomas Collings deceased is granted William Collings who qualified according to law & together with William Carter his security entered into bond and acknowledged the same accordingly. Nathl. Smith, Andr. Joyce, Wm. Smith & Wm. Burge or any 3 of them are appd. to appraise the Estate of the said Thomas Collings Deceased & make rept. thereof to the Court. Wm. Sneed is appointed Surveyor of the Road from the forks at Silas Ratliff to the Bull Mountain Road & the list filed be his Gang. John Sharp, John Abbington & Nathl. Shelton are appointed to View away for a Road from the Road opposite John Sharps aCross Kogers Creek's to Harris old Field & make report thereof to the Court. On the mo. of Richardson Mayo Ordered that a W. of Adquodamnum issue priviledging him to build a Water Grist Mill a cross Buffalow Creek according to law. A View of a Road from below Joseph Reynolds to James Turners & from thence to Richard Pilsons returned & O.R. Samuel Staples, Joshua Rentfro, Robert Scott & Wm. Jones or any 3 of them are appointed Commissioners to let to the lowest Bidders the clearing of the Cross Street & Selling the remaining part of the lots in the Town of Taylorsville & make rept. thereof to the etc. APRIL COURT (29 April 1803) James L. Gains, Robert Sharp, John Turner, Samuel Hughes, Wm. Cloud, John Hall & John A. Grigg are recommended as Justices of the Peace for this C[ounty]. JUNE COURT (30 June 1803) Jabez Johnson is appointed Constable in the District from little Dann to the uper end of the County under the Act in that Case made and Provided. Noah Parr is also appointed from little Dann South of the Bull Mountain Rd. to the lower end of the County. Joseph Cummings is also appointed Constable in that part of the County north of the said Bull Mountain Road, so as to include Capt. Wm. Adams's Company. Thomas R. Hall is also appointed from the northward part of the said Adams Company so as to include all the remaining part of the sd. County North of the _? David Keaton appointed to call on James Thompson & his gang and that the[y] do repair Spoon Creek Bridge, and then return again to their respective roads again. Jesse Corn, James Taylor, William Sharp, & John James or any 3 of them are appd. to View a way for a road from the Creek at the said Taylors into the Courthouse road near George Lackey's, and make report thereof to the Court. JULY COURT (28 July 1803) William Banks is appd. a Commissioner in the Place of David Baker, decd. to settle the acct. Current of Isaac Holands deceased. Thomas Parr is appointed Guardian in the Place of John Parr Sr. on behalf of John Parr The Younger & Nancy & Maizy Parr, Children and Orphans of John Henry Parr deceased and together with Gabriel Penn, his security entered into bond and acknowledged the same according to law. Joshua Rentfro, Samuel Clark Sr. and Samuel Clark Jr. and Samuel Corn or any 3 of them are appointed to attend the Surveyor in laying of and allotting to the four Children and Heirs of Henry Parr deceased equally all the lands the said Henry Parr died seized of, and make report thereof to the Court. AUGUST COURT (25 August 1803) An Instrument of Writing from under the hands & Seals of Elisabeth Duweese, Rachel Davis, Mary Foley, Barbary Foley, Nolley Foley & Biddey, relative to the Devision of their lands Presented in Court Proven by the Oath of the witness thereto subscribed & O.R. A report of a View of a road from the Creek at James Taylors into the Courthouse road near George Lackeys, return and Ordered to be recorded. And it is further Ordered that John James call on John Adams & Moses Reynolds & their Gangs to open the same to the Creek between the Mountain, and Jesse Corn to call on Richd. Sharp, Geo. Lackey & Ben Hancock & their Gangs to open the Ballance. OCTOBER COURT (28 October 1803) Present: Charles Foster, Samuel Packwood, Brett Stovall & Robert Sharp -- Gentlemen Justices NOVEMBER COURT (24 November 1803) Present: Gabriel Penn, William Banks, Robert Sharp, John Turner, James L. Gaines -- Gentlemen Justices An Inventory of the Estate of John Breden decd. returned & O.R. Washington Rowland Qualified as Deputy Sheriff under Wm. Banks, Shff. John Hall, Joseph Reynolds, Jeremiah Burnett Jr. & Adam Turner or any 3 of them are appd. to View away for a Road from the forks of the Creek near Joseph Reynolds to the Courthouse road near James Bollings & make rept. thereof to the Court. A report of a View of a Road also to Clear the Road from the Creek near James Taylors to the Road near George Lackeys retd. & O.R. Taver (?) Rigg is appointed Surveyor of the Road from the Creek at Taylors to the Middle fork of Mayo in the Bull Mountain & the list filed be his Gang. John Sharp Jr. is appointed Surveyor of the Road from James Taylors at the Creek to James Murphys & the list filed be his Gang. Wm. Willis is appd. Surveyor of the Road from......[left blank] DECEMBER COURT (29 December 1803) Present: William Carter, John Hughes, Samuel L. Gaines, John Turner & Robert Sharp -- Gentlemen Justices Richard Fain is exempted from the payment of County & parrish levies for the future. Alexander Murphy is appointed surveyor of the road from the Creek below Murphys to the Courthouse in Place of George Fulcher & the list filed be his Gang. David Picklesimer is appointed Constable including the Waters of Peters Creek & Wm. Moores Company of Militia, & it is Ordered that he appear at the next Court & Give security according to law. William Hancock is also appointed Constable to act north of the Bull Mountain. It is also Ordered that he too appear here at the next Court & Give security according to law. Thomas Sneed is appointed Surveyor of the road from James Taylors at the Creek to the ford of Mayo at Mrs. Penns land in the Place of Moses Reynolds & the list filed be his gang.
