A CALD COURT IN JULY 1804 (5 July 1804) At a Court held at Patrick Courthouse on Thursday the 5th day of July 1804 on the Examina.n of Martin and James Long on suspicion of Breakg. open the Store house of Greensville and Thomas Penn on the night of the 3rd of June last and feloniously Stealing sundry Goods wares and Merchandise also a Quantity of Cash. Hughes & Robert Sharp -- Gentlemen Justices JULY COURT 1804 (26 July 1804) Administration of the Estate of David Quarles decd. is Granted to Judith Quarles Widow of the said Decedant, who Qualified according to law, and together with James and Abraham Quarles her securities entered into bond conditioned as the law directs. Award returnd for the Defendant and Judgment Is thereupon granted the Defendant against the Plaintiff for all lawfull Costs. Fletcher v Smith. Richard Nowlen security for Plf. Costs. The Order of Court yesterday for repairing the County Jail etc is hereby rescinded. And it is Ordered that Wm. Banks and Samuel Staples do proceed to let to the lowest bidders the repairing of the same in such manner and form as they may think Proper the same to be done and compleated within ten days, the repair as to the Chimney excepted. It is Ordered that in case Wm. Banks or Samuel Staples become undersh[eriffs?] of the County Jail, Then that Robert Sharp, Eliphaz Shelton & Robert Scott or any 2 of them do except to or receive the same. SEPTEMBER COURT 1804 (27 September 1804) James Epperson is Appointed Surveyor of the Road from the forks below Capt. Parrs to the Schoolhouse near E. Sheltons & the list filed be his Gang. Wm. Sneed & his Gang is to be considered as Oversaer(?) of the New Road from Silas Ratliffs into the near Bartlett Foley & it is Ordered that they do clear and keep the same in repair according to law. OCTOBER COURT 1804 (25 October 1804) Present: Gabriel Penn, John Hughes, Robert Sharp & John A. Grigg -- Gentlemen Justices A Deed from Samuel Clark Jr. to Joel Clark acknowledged and Virginia the Wife of the said Samuel being Privily examined relinquished her right of Dower & O. R. David Taylor foreman, Jesse Reynolds, Augustine Thomas, Ignatious Redman, Sharp Ba[rton?], William Will, James Taylor, Alexander Finney, Samuel Hunt, Nathaniel Ross, Samuel Corn, Adrian Anglin, John Chapman, John Clark, William Jones, John Rea were Sworn a grand Jury of inquest for the body of this County, whereupon they withdrew to consult on their presentments. (26 October 1804) The last Will and Testament of Francis Turner decd. was exhibited in Court & furt. Proved by the Oath of Bennett Houchings & the same was O.R. by the Court. Robert Sharp is recommended as a proper and fit Person to serve as Ensign in a company of Riflemen of the 2d. Battalion under command of Capt. Jesse Tatum in the Place of Abraham Penn who is Promoted in the same Company. Samuel Hughes Gl. is Continued Commissioner of this County for the ensuing year. DECEMBER COURT 1804 (27 December 1804) Present: John Hughes, Gabriel Penn, John Turner & Robert Sharp -- Gentlemen Justices Adam Turner, John Turner & James Turner the Exors of the last Will and Testament of Francis Turner Decd. appeared in Court and Qualified according to law and entered into bond with sufficient security for their Performance as Exors. and acknowledged the same accordingly. On Mo. of John Ingram Ordered that a Writ of Adquoddammum issue Previledging him build a Water Grist Mill on the head Waters of the Middle fork of South Mayo River, being owner on one side. John Cammeran appeared in Court and Presented an Instrument of Writing from under his hand Stating that it Is his wish to Immansipate his Negro man slave Ceaser. It is therefore Ordered by the Court that the writing be recorded in the Court and that the said Negro Ceaser shall be called Ceaser Findley and that he is hereby to all intents and Purposes Liberated & Set free, under the Act of Assembly in that case made and Provided.
