PATRICK COUNTY, VA - COURT - Order Book "1" (Selected Entries, 1807) ----¤¤¤---- PATRICK CO., VA., ORDER BOOK 1 (SELECTED ENTRIES), 1807 FEBRUARY COURT (27 February 1807) Present: John Hughes, Gabriel Penn, James S. Gaines, Greensville Penn, Robert Sharp & John Tatum -- Gentlemen Justices On mo. Ordered that Brett Stovall Surveyor of this County proceed to run the dividing line between the said County of Patrick & Henry agreeable to the Act of Assembly in that case Provided & It is further Ordered that George Penn & William Banks do attend the said Surveyor for that purpose as Commissioners in Conformity with the Order of Henry Court This Order is resinded. Osborne v Picklesimer abates by the death of the Plaintiff. MARCH COURT (26 March 1807) William Hancock is appointed Surveyor of the Road from the fork of the branch by Joseph Reynolds to James Bollings In the Place of James Whalen & the list filed be his Gang. Samuel Clark, Saml. Corn, James Epperson & George Clark or any 3 of them are appointed to View a way for a road from the ford of Mayo at John Parrs to Gabl. Penns Store house and make report thereof to the Court. David Taylor one of the Executors apptd in the last Will and Testament of James Taylor decd. appeared in Court and took upon himself the sole Executorship of the sd. Estate Qualified according to law and together with George Penn & Others his Securitys entered into bond conditioned according to law. George Penn Sr., Adrian Anglin, John James & John Turner Sr. or any 3 of them are appointed appraisers of the said Estate and that they do make report thereof to the Court. Present: John Hall, Josiah Farris, Wm. Banks, Rob. Sharp, Richard Thomas, Britt Stovall, Gentlemen Justices. APRIL COURT (1 May 1807) Present: Richd. Thomas, John Turner, Elijah Banks, Thomas Penn, James S. Gaines, George Penn, Jonathan Hanby, Abraham Penn, John Hughes, Greensville Penn, Adam Turner, William Cloud, John Tatum, Robert Sharp, Wm. Carter & William Adams, Gentlemen Justices. William Banks Senr. is appointed Commissioner of this County for the Present year in the Place of Samuel Hughes resigned. James Nowlin is allowed 1 days Attendance as a Witness for Richard Nowlin ads Belisle. George Carter Senr., Abraham Penn & James S. Gaines are appointed Overseers of the Poor for the upper district. MAY COURT (28 May 1807) Richard Harrison Sr. & David Taylor each Qualified as Overseers of the Poor according to law. Richard Thomas is at the request of Barbary Foley Sr. appointed to superintend her business she being in some degree deranged, & the said Richard Thomas & David Harbour is hereafter to enter into bond for the faithful administering the estate of the said Barbary Foley Sr. according to law. Thomas Reives Qualified as Overseer of the Poor according to law. Thomas Reives, Wm. Adams, John Corn & Wm. Sharp are appointed to view away for a road from the foot of the bull Mountain near Sharps to Rosses Road near Tenisons and make report thereof to the Court. James Turner, John Tuggle, John Cox (?), & Joseph Reynolds or any 3 of them are appd. to review the new road from Reuben Burnetts to the top of the Mountain and make report thereof to the Court. The former order on this occasion is hereby resinded. Col. George Penns, Thomas & Horatio Penns hands are added to Saml. Crutchers list of hands, also Abraham Penns Jr. and Harden Hairstons hands at the Mayo Quarter also are added & that they are hereby discharged from all other roads. Samuel Hughes is appointed Surveyor of the road from the north bank of the South Mayo River to the North Carolina line and the former list and all lawfull hands in said bounds be his Gang. Amoss Askins is appointed Surveyor of the road from the ford of the Mayo at J[ohn?] Parrs to the forks above the Widow Parrs in Place of Munford Smith and the list filed be his Gang. A report of a View of a Road from the ford of the Mayo at John Parr's to Gab. Penns Store returned & O.R. Edward Lewis an Invallid Pensioner of this State is allowed his usual allowance of fifty dollars & it is Ordered that the Shrff pay him the same. And it is further Ordered that the same be Certified to the Auditor of Publick accounts. OCTOBER COURT (30 October 1807) Ordered that the Overseers of the Poor bind Ruth Findley aged 3 years old, child of Susannah Findley to Hannah Findley according to law. Present: William Carter & Robert Sharp, Gent. Absent, William Banks & Thomas Penn, Gentlemen Justices. On the mo. of Wm. Banks by his Atto. to stay the Proceedings of a Judgt. obtained against him by Richardson Hirndon for etc. until the same can be heard in equity, and on hearing the bill and arguments thereon the same is granted him & together with Robert Sharp his security entered into bond conditioned according to law. DECEMBER COURT (31 December 1807) The last Will and Testament of Jacob Adams decd. was exhibited in Court, Proved and O.R. Charles Foster and John Turner Gent. named in said Will as Exors. appeared Qualified entered into bond with security conditioned according to law. Wm. Sharp, Benjamin Hancock, Thomas Rieves, David Harbour or any 3 of them are appointed to appraise the said Estate and make report by Inventory thereof to the Court. (Transcribed by Mary C.
