Hancock or any 3 of them are appointed to View a way for a Road from the Corner of Nancy Corns lane into the Road leading to Wm. Sharps near the Branch and make report thereof to the Court. Richard Pilson is appointed Surveyor of the Road from the forks beyond Benja. Mayos old Place to the Cross Roads near the Widow Foleys and the list filed be his Gang. Edward Lewis an Invalid Pensioner of this State is allowed his usual claim of fifty dollars, which was Ordered to be Certified to the Auditor of Public Accounts. John A. Corn is Appointed Surveyor of the Road in the Place of Benjamin Hancock from the said Hancocks fence to the Bull Mountain Road and the list filed be his gang. leave is Granted Gabriel Penn to Turn the road from the mouth of his lane by his Store house into the road again. Thomas Banks is appointed Guardian for Polley Adams an Infant Heir of Isaac Adams decd. & he Together with Greensville Penn his security entered into bond and acknowledged the same accordingly for 5 hundred dollars. George Penn, Wm. Banks Sr., Wm. Fuson & John Hall or any 3 of them are appointed Commissioners to settle the Account Current of the Estate of Jesse Corn decd. and make report thereof to the Court. On the motion of Carrington Dillion by his attorney to recind a former order of this Court respecting Sarah Hammilton's Dower, ordered that the same be continued untill next court. A Dedimus from Sarah Hamilton to Henry Dillion returned & Ordered to be Recorded. A Power of Attorney from John Newman to Samuel Staples proved & ordered to be Recorded. APRIL COURT (26 April 1811) A Deed from Alexander Askew to Gabl. & Greensville Penn acknowledged & ordered to be recorded, & Rohda the wife of Askew Being privily examined Relinquished her right of dower. Mathew Sandifur, by the consent of Shff, appeared in Court & qualifyed as a Collector of the clerks fees in Patrick. Robert Sharp is allowed 2 days attendance as a Witness for Banks vs Perkins. Adam Turner is allowed one days attendance as a Witness for Sharp ads Commonwealth. Wm. Sharp Sr. is allowed one days attendance for Banks v. Perkins. John Turner is allowed one days attendance for Sharp ads Comwealth. Nathl Helton is allowed 2 days attendance as a Witness for the Comonwealth v. Sharp. JUNE COURT (27 June 1811) James Taylor Jr. is appointed surveyor of the road from the ford of Spoon creek above Hamon Critzes to the forks above Joseph Keatons, the old line post, in the room of John Clark resigned & it is ordered that the list filed be his gang. Wm. Sharp Jr. is appointed Surveyor of the road from the fork of the road near Tatums to Patrick Chouse & it is ordered that all the Hands within the Bounds of said precinct do work and Keep the same in repair according to law. Wm. Carter Sr. is exempted from paying county and parrish levy in future. Phillip Anglin is appointed surveyor of the road in the place of Eliheu Aryes resigned & it is ordered that the list of the hands filed Be his gang. Gerrard Branson Sr. is appointed surveyor of the road from the ford of the creek near Majr. Moores to Abram Penns store in the room of Joseph Wil...? resigned & it is Ordered that the list filed be his gang. Ordered that all that part of the county west of Peters Creek be the bounds for James Taylor and Elihu Ayres to act as constables. George F. Critz is appointed surveyor of the road from Capt. Thomas Branson qualifyed to a commission appointing him Lieutenant of the militia of the upper Batalion according to law. Colo. George Penn also quallifed to his Commission appointing him escheator of this county. JULY COURT (25 July 1811) Thomas R. Hall foreman, James Ingram, Joseph Willis, John Sharp Jr., William Sharp Sr., Elijah Dehart, John James, David Crews, John Spencer, Wm. Witt, Josiah Reives, William Fuson, Moses Harbour, Jos. Smith, Isaac Martin, Wm. Keaton, Ezekiel Purdy & Wm. Witt, Jr., were sworn a grand Jury of Inquest for the body of the county whereupon they withdrew to consult upon their presentments. Turners exors. v. Richard Nowlin Judgement confessed according to specialty & costs. John Burch appeared to his recognce. entered into before John Tatum a Justice of the peace for this county relative to his having been charged of begetting a Child on the body of Hannah Landrith & the recogee. being informal the same is dismissed. Britt Stovall, Munford Smith & Charles Thomas are recommended to the executive as one of them a fit & proper persons to serve as a sheriff for the same county of Patrick the ensuing year. James L. Gaines came into court and resigned his commission as a Justice of the peace for this county. (26 July 1811) Comwealth v. Richard Sharp dismissed at the prosecutors Costs & the rule discharged. A Power of Attorney from Sarah Hammelton to Henry Kogar proved by one witness & ordered to be certifyed. John Turner is allowed two days attendance as a Witness for Sharp ads Comwealth. Samuel Helton is allowed 2 days as a Witness for the Commonwealth v. Sharp. Wm. Banks Jr. is allowed one days attendance as a Witness for Sharp ads. Commonwealth. Joseph Smith presented a Commission from the executive appointing him Ensign of the militia of the upper Batallion & qualified to the same according to law. AUGUST COURT (29 August 1811) John Turner, Adam Turner, Richard Booth & Jesse Hubbard or any Three of [them] are appointed to View away for a road from the Widow Turners old mill by Wm. Burnetts mill and into the road near Henry Thompsons, etc, & make report thereof to the court. Wm. Lyon is appointed surveyr of the road in the room of Marvell Boulding & it is ordered that the usual gang including Nathaniel Hall be his gang, & also Major Hancock & it is ordered that he Keep the same in repair according to law. James Turner is appointed surveyor of the road from the fork of the road above Benett Houchings into the old road at Richard Booths and it is ordered that Benjamin Mayo, Richard Booth & Martin Weddle be his gang, & it is further ordered that they do clear and Keep the same in repair according to law. A Deed from James Sharp to Wm. Sharp Sr. Proved & ordered to be recorded. Also a Deed from Wm. Sharp Jr. to Wm. Sharp Sr. acknowledged and ordered to be recorded. Capt. Crutchers & make report thereof to the court. Hamon Critz, Richard Harrison, Wm. Jones & Francis Nowlin or any three of them are appointed to View away for a road from the head of Colo. Critzs lane to Gabl. Penns mill & make report thereof to the Court. James L. Gaines, Clement Vaughten, Wm. Gaines & Wm. Stinson or any three of them are appointed to View away for a road from the road Cabbins through Jno. Bengmans plantation into the old Hollow road above head of his lane & make report thereof to the Court. Wm. Keaton is appointed surveyor of the road in the room of Enock Bredwell, & that the list filed be his gang. James Scales & his hands & Elisha Thackers are added to the gang of George L. Clark. John Turner, Capt. Wm. Fuson, George Lackey & John Corn or any three of them are appointed to View away for a road from Obediah Burnetts mill up the north fork of Smiths river up the mountain into the road that leads to Shielors Iron works at the head of rock castle, & that they review that way as well also the old way & make report thereof to the Court which in their opinion is the best for the Interest of the Community at large. Britt Stovall, John Tatum, Joseph Smith & William Gaines or any three of them are appointed Commissioners to lay off and alott to each Legatee their propotion of lands after aloting to the Widow her dower on said lands of James Going deceased & make report Thereof to the Court. SEPTEMBER COURT (26 September 1811) A Deed of Gift from Thomas Cardwell to Joel Clark with the Certificate of the clerk of stokes certifiing its acknowledgement was exhibited in Court, & ordered to be recorded. Also a Deed from Wm. Sharp Sr. to Thomas Reives acknowledged and ordered to be recorded. Nancy Going v. Keziah Going on a peace warrant before a Justice of the peace. The plaintiff being called and not appearing the defendant is therefore dismissed of her recognizance. George Harrison Sr. is appointed surveyor of the road from the Bridge near Colo. Critzs into the road near Capt. Crutchers & it is ordered that the list of the hands filed be his gang & that they do clear and Keep the same in repair agreeable to law. German Baker, John Gossett, John Hill and Silas Witt or any three of them are appointed to View away for a road from Harris old field below Koger creed near Jas. A Dedimus from Jas. McAlexander to Elijah Dehart was returned and ordered to be recorded. On the motion of Richard Sharp v. Nathl. Brown, Aron Loe and John Akers on a forth Coming Bond Judgement according to the Bond with Interest and Costs. Greensville Penn, Britt Stovall, Tho. Penn and Wm. Banks Sr. are appointed to View away for a road from Greensville Penns into the Bull mountain road near Rusks old field & make report thereof to the Court. Wm. Banks Sr. is appointed to superintend the clearing of the above road & that all lawfull hands within the bounds of said road do aid in the clearing of the same (the Hands between the No. Mayo and the Henry line up to Gabl. Penns.). Ordered that Benja. Pike and hands do assist in the cutting of the road from Bellars old place by Ellysons old mill to the county line, & then to return to his respective road. Wm. Massey is appointed constable on the no. side of the Bull mountain & he together with German Baker his security entered into to bond accordingly, and qualified according to law.
