PATRICK COUNTY, VA - COURT - Order Book "2" (Selected Entries, 1814) ----¤¤¤---- FEBRUARY COURT (25 February 1814) Present: Richard Thomas, Adam Turner, Harvey Fitzgerald & Jerman Baker -- Genl. Justices Present: Rob. Sharp Genl. Justice An Inventory of the Estate of James Taylor decd. retd. & O.R. A Deed of Gift from William Banks Sr. to his son William Banks & Polley Banks, Permilia Perkins, & Sophia Miller Proved and Ordered to be recorded. John Tatum, Harvey Fitzgerald, Robert Sharp, or any 2 of them are appointed Commissioners to let to the lowest bidder the building a Stocks & Pillery for the County & report accordingly. MARCH COURT (31 March 1814) John Adams is appointed surveyor of the road from Taylors to the middle fork of the mayo in the Bull mountain in the room of Jediah Carter, and it is ordered that the same hands clear and keep the same in repair according to law. Isham Craddock is exempted from paying County & Parish Levy. Thomas Sharp is appointed surveyor of the road in the room of Henry Kroger from John Camrons to the Bull mountain road and that all lawful hands within said bounds be his Gang and that they clear & Keep the same in repair according to law. William Hancock is appointed Constable in the Bounds of Thomas Harbour untill his return, & he Together his security Greensville Penn entered into Bond conditioned according to law after being quallyfied. Adam Turner is appointed Superintend of the cutting & clearing of the road now marked & laid off from the forks near Jeremiah Burnetts to the cross roads below Richard Sharps old place -- and that Bennett Houchings & Jesse Corns hands assist in the cutting and clearing the same.... APRIL COURT (25 August 1814) Charles Sharp is appointed Surveyor of the road in the room of Thomas Sneed and its ordered that the list of the hands filed be his Gang. (29 April 1814) Present: Robert Sharp, John Tatum, Jerman Baker & Harvey Fitzgerald -- Gentlemen Justices of the Court James Fulkerson, William Gray, John Rea & Washington Thomas, or any three of them are appointed Commissioners to appraise the Estate of Robert Mayo decd. and make report with an Inventory thereof to the Court. MAY COURT (26 May 1814) Thomas Ayres is appointed Surveyor of the Road in Place of Philip Anglin from the Carolina line to Penns old Store and the former hands be his Gang etc. & that they do clear & Keep the same in repair according to law. Ordered that Col. Critzs hands be added to J. Thompson Gang & that the said Thompson bounds be extended from Spooncreek to the Meeting house below said Critz at the old Field. An Inventory of the Estate of Robert Mayo decd. retd. & O.R. An acct. of $18.02 due Clark Penn, Deputy Shff for Britt [Stovall?] Sheriff for travelling to Franklin Courthouse to compair the poles for a member of Congress & also for a member of the Senate, was presented in Court examined, allowed & Ordered to be certified for further adjustment to the Auditer of Public Accounts. Samuel Staples, Robert Sharp, John Tatum, Harvey Fitzgerald, & John Hall, or any 3 of them are appointed Commissioners to examine the County Jail, & report whether the same is done agreeable to the Plan to the next County Court. The last Will and Testament of Sherod Harris decd. was exhibited in Court, Proved by 2 of the Witnesses thereto to be the act and Deed of the said S. Harris decd. & the same was Ordered to be recorded by the C.... SEPTEMBER COURT (29 September 1814) Ordered that a summons issue to summon Mrs. Ayres, widow of Tho. Ayres decd. to appear hear at the next Court to take upon herself the Administration of the estate of her decd. Husband. Ordered that the Shff pay unto Wm. Parmer 73 Cents out of the Depositum in hand for so much tax on the said Parmer for 1814 he being heretofor set levy free. Thomas Harbour is allowed $4.41 & John Sneed $4.18, also John Sharp, A. Reynolds, Jesse Corn & Others $1.00, also John Sharp & Others as Guard $3.18, also Abram Reynolds for D..... pr... all which were ordered to be certified to the Auditor of Public Accts. NOVEMBER COURT 1814 Wm. Crum Qualified as Cornete of the cavalry in Place of T. Baker. DECEMBER COURT (29 December 1814) ...a deed from Charles Sharp to John Sharp Acknowledged and ordered to be recorded.
