PATRICK COUNTY, VA - COURT - Order Book "2" (Selected Entries, 1820) ----¤¤¤---- FEBRUARY COURT (17 February 1820) ...a Deed of Gift from Stacy Fitzgerald now Stacy Buzzard to John Gilbert further and fully proven and Ordered to be recorded. Also a Deed of Gift from the same to Stacy Gilbert the same. MARCH COURT (16 March 1820) William Lyon vs. M. Parmer & James Bolling etc. likewise on a Peace warrant. The defendants appeared to their recognizance entered into before a Justice of the Peace of this County. The defendants severally appeared and acknowledged themselves indebted to the Governor of this Commonwealth & his sucessors for the time being each in the sum of $50, and Abram Staples, M. Sandifur, Jesse Corn, each in the sum of $25 on condition that they be of good behavior towards the citizens of this Comwealth & more especially towards Wm. Lyon for a year & a days behavior. A Deed from Charles Sharp & Wife to Thomas Reynolds acknowledged & O.R. MAY COURT (11 May 1820) On the motion of Colo. Greensville Penn leave is granted him to keep a House of entertainment at his house in this County for one year and thereupon with Abraham Staples his security entered into and acknowledged the same according to law. On the motion of Thomas Sharp leave is granted him to keep a house also of entertainment at his own house in this County for one year and Thereupon with A. Staples his security entered into and acknowledged a bond Conditioned according to law. Ordered that all the acting Justices of this County be summoned to appear here On the 1st day of the next Term to take into Consideration the practicality of adding to the Commission of the peace & recommending Militia Officers. Thomas Penn, William Frans, John Frans, and William Elliott or any three of them are appointed Commisioners to View away for a road from the sd. Elliotts to the new road leading from the said Penns Mill to Camrons & make report of the result thereof to the next Court. JUNE COURT (15 June 1820) To John Burnett for [surveyor as pr account filed] 2 days $1.00 To Charles Sharp do 3 days 1.50 To John Tuggle do 1 day .50 To Augustine Thomas for 2 days 1.00 To do for 2 sign boads .50 To Francis Nowlin for 2 days services 1.00 To Jesse Dehart for 3 days services 1.50 To Wm. Sharp for 2 days do 1.00 To Jesse Corn for takg. inquest on the body of Wm. Rickman 5.00 To Wm. Lyon for his services 1 day .50 Hudson Shelton is allowed one days attendance as a witness for Ingrum against Helms. OCTOBER COURT (12 October 1820) Martha Burnett v. Crawford Burnett. On a recognizance the parties appeared and were heard, on Consideration whereof the Court are of Opinion that the said Crawford Burnett be bound in the sum of one hundred dollars and 2 securitys, each in the sum of fifty dollars, whereupon the said C. Burnett Comes into Court and acknowledged himself indebted to Thomas M. Randolph esquire Governor of Virginia and his successors for the time being in the sum of $100 and Elijah Dehart and John Halbert, each in the sum of $50 to be Levied on their respective goods and Chattels, Lands and tenements to the use of the said Commonwealth On this special Condition that the said Crawford Burnett be not of good behavior towards the Citizens of this Commonwealth and more especially toward the said Martha Burnett for and during the term of one year, Otherwise to be null & void. Matthew Sandifur, Richard Thomas, and William Hancock are appointed Commisioners to settle the account Current of the estate of Benjamin Terry decd. with Obediah Burnett, the administrator thereof....
