PATRICK COUNTY, VA - COURT - Order Book "3" (Selected Entries, 1822) ----¤¤¤---- FEBRUARY COURT (14 February 1822) Thomas Penn is appointed Guardian ad litem for the children and heirs of J. N. Baker decd. Nathan Reed, Genteman presented in Court his License for practising Law in the Courts of this Commonwealth whereupon he took the oath to support the Constitution of the U. States and also the oath of an attorney. William Sharp is appointed surveyor of the road in place of G. Lemon removed and it is ordered that the list of hands filed Constitute his gang. Ordered that a Negro Sam the property of James Bartlett be exempted from paying County and parish Levy for the future. Ordered that the Sheriff of this County proceed without delay to sell or hire out Samuel & John Findley free men of Colour for a period sufficiently long to pay their last years taxes in pursuance of the act of assembly in such Cases made & provided. James Lackey, Costillo Hill, Nathl. Akers and Jourdan Peters or any three of them are appointed Commisioners to View away for a road or rather turning a road at the forks of the road near James Tuggles thence up the mabrey gap road a short distance then turning to the left down a ridge into the said road, and thereupon report to Court the result of the matter. Richard Thomas, William Hancock, James Lackey and Adam Turner or any three of them are appointed Commisioners to View away for a road from Richard Booths old place to Intersect with the Rock Castle road at William McAlexander senrs and thereupon when done to report to Court accordingly. Ordered that Richd. and William Nowlin and N. B. Crow(?) be added to the gang of William Keaton. Elijah Dehart is appointed surveyor of the road from Charity meeting House by John McAlexanders to William McAlexander senrs and it is ordered that the list of the hands filed be his gang. JUNE COURT (13 June 1822) To Valentine Burnett for 2 days as surveyor $1.00 To William Sharp as surveyor for 2 days 1.00 To Francis Nowlin 1 day as surveyor of the road .50 To do for last year not paid 2 days 1.00 To do for 2 sign board @ 50 Cents 1.00 AUGUST COURT (16 August 1822) Fountain (?) & Dandridge etc vs. Sharp Judgment confessed with Interest according to specialty and Costs subject to the following Credits to wit $100 paid 12 Nov. 1821 & also $31 paid 5th July 1822. Corn asse v. Sharp plea waved & Judgment according to specialty & Costs with Int. SEPTEMBER COURT (12 September 1822) Ordered that the following Claims be allowed and Certified to the Auditor of Public accounts To Jacob Helton as per his account filed $ .53 Cents To William Crum as per his account 1.50 " To Nancey Murphy etc etc etc as per account 5.30 To Thomas Harbour as per account 5.04 To Naaman Harbour as per ditto 1.50 To Jeremiah Burnett as per ditto .75 To Jeremiah Foley as per ditto .75 Traylor v. Sharp and Thompson On a Delivery Bond. Notice proved and Judgment granted with award of Execution according to Law with Int. & Costs. OCTOBER COURT (17 October 1822) A deed from Crawford Burnett and wife to Jeremiah Burnett jr. with the Certificate of acknowledgement before two of the Comwealths Justices of the peace by the said C. Burnett and wife was presented in Court Examined and Ordered to be recorded. NOVEMBER COURT (15 November 1822) Present: William Carter, William Hancock, Harvey Fitzgerald and John Tatum -- Genteman Justices Randolph D. Scales is appointed guardian ad litem for Absolem W.
