PATRICK COUNTY, VA - COURT - Order Book "5" (Selected Entries, 1844) ----¤¤¤---- JANUARY COURT (11 January 1844) An inventory and appraisement of the estate of John Poindexter decd. was returned into Court examined and ordered to be recorded. Jessee Corn, William Critz, Arch Carter, Jeremiah Burnett and Crawford Turner Gentlemen Justices convened for the purpose of holding an examining Court for the trial of Wade Duncan and John Duncan for feloniously stealing and carrying away from the possession of Lewis Sharp a red pided(?) yearlin the property of the said Lewis Sharp. Administration of the estate of Jessee Murphy Sr. decd. is granted to Elizabeth Cole and Pryer Tatum as admrx. and admr. with the will annexed of the said Murphy and thereupon the said Elizabeth Cole and Pryer Tatum entered into acknowledged a bond in the penalty of eight thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs with Harriet Murphy and John Tatum Sr. their securities. They have taken the oath required by law, whereupon certificate of administration is granted them in due form. Ordered that John G. Lee, Carter France, Hardin Reynolds and Jacob Clark or any three of them being first sworn before some Justice of the peace be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to appraise in current money the personal and real estate of Jessee Murphy Sr. decd. and make report to the Court. An account of A. Staples clerk of this Court for ten dollars and fifty cents was presented in Court examined allowed and ordered to be certified to the auditor of public accounts. Administration of the estate of Harvey Fitzgerald decd. is granted to James Fitzgerald and thereupon the said James Fitzgerald having taken the oath prescribed by law entered into & acknowledged a bond in the penalty of two hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs with A. Staples and Micajah Francis his securities whereupon certificate of administration is granted in due form of law. Ordered that John D. Cheatham, John Ranegly and Alexander A. Moir or any two of them being first sworn before some Justice of the peace be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to appraise in current money the estate of Harvey Fitzgerald decd. and make return thereof to the Court. Three accounts of Henry Tuggle Deputy for Norman Staples Shff of Patrick, one for $4.20 cents, the other for $4.20 cents and the third for the like sum was returned into Court examined and ordered to be certified to the auditor of public accounts. MARCH COURT (27 March 1844) Satisfactory evidence having been exhibited to the Court that Harvey Fitzgerald decd. was a pensioner of the United States at the rate of twenty dollars per annum, was a resident of Patrick County State of Virginia and died in the County of Patrick in the state of Virginia in the year 1843 on the 29th day of November, that he left a widow whose name is Elizabeth Fitzgerald, the same is ordered to be certified to the war department.
