PATRICK COUNTY, VA - COURT - Francis T. Gaines Importation of Slaves,

Memorandum of two slaves brought by Francis T. Gains to the State of Virginia 
from the State of North Carolina to wit one negro boy name Orange about 18 
years of age and one negro girl named American about 12 years of age.. 
 
 					Francis T. Gaines, S. S. 
 
 Patrick County to wit 
 
 This day Francis T. Gains comes before me Gabiel Penn a justice of the peace 
for said county and made oath that the above certificate of slaves brought 
into this state was true and that he did not bring them into for sale or with 
intent to evade the laws of the Commonwealth or prevent the further 
importation of slaves in any manner contrary to the provisions of threat of 
assembly made in that care and _______  Given under my hand and on this 15th 
day of August 1816.

 Patrick County August Court 1816 
 This Certificate of Importation of slaves was exhibited in court examined and 
ordered to be recorded.
