Harrold/Scott Deed, 1864 - Patrick Co. VA Deed of Catherine [Scott] Harrold, from Thomas Scott and Matilda Scott, 1864, Patrick County, Virginia. This Indenture made this 12th day of February, 1864, between THOMAS SCOTT of the County of Patrick and State of Virginia, and MATILDA his wife, of the first part, and CATHARINE HARROLD of the other part, Witnesseth that the said THOMAS SCOTT and MATILDA his wife for, and in consideration of, the sum of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said CATHARINE HARROLD, at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereby they do hereby acknowledge, have granted bargained and sold aliened released and unto the said CATHARINE HARROLD and unto her heirs and assigns forever a certain piece of land containing 50 acres more or less, lying in the County of Patrick on the waters of Johnson's Creek, and bounded as follows. To wit, beginning on a poplar on JOHN SCOTT's line on a branch up the same as it meanders to a poplar, from thence, a marked line to a white oak in R. MCMILLIAN'S line with the same to pointers S30 E to a white oak N258 58 poles to a dead chestnut oak in a field near a path, Thence with the path to the beginning. The same to have and to hold the said piece of land and every part and parcel thereof with its appurtenances unto the said CATHARINE HARROLD, and her heirs and assigns forever, and the said THOMAS SCOTT, for himself his heirs, his administrators and Executors, and for him and in behalf of the said MATILDA his wife and her heirs, doth covenant promise grant and agree to and with the said CATHARINE HARROLD, her heirs and assigns by these presents in the manner and from the following, to wit: that he the said THOMAS SCOTT and his heirs the said piece or parcel of land and promises hereby granted or intended so to be with the appurtenances unto the said CATHARINE HARROLD her heirs and assigns against him the said THOMAS SCOTT and his heirs and against the heirs of the said MATILDA, his wife, will for ever warrant and defend by these presents. CLARK, a Notary Public of the County of Patrick, State of Virginia, do certify that MATILDA SCOTT the wife of THOMAS SCOTT, whose names are signed to the writing within, bearing date 12th February 1864, personally appeared before me in the county aforesaid and being examined by me fairly and apart from her husband, and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said MATILDA SCOTT acknowledged the said writing to be her act, and declared that she had willingly executed the same, and does not wish to retract it. Note 2: THOMAS SCOTT, grantor, is THOMAS SCOTT, son of JOHN SCOTT and AFFIRAH AYERS, and thus sister of CATHERINE [SCOTT] HARROLD. Note 3: MATILDA SCOTT is the former MATILDA HIATT. Note 4: R.
