Keaton/Sharp Deed of Trust, 1831 - Patrick County, Virginia Patrick County, Va., Deed Book 7, p. 518 Grantor: William Keaton Grantee: Samuel Sharp, Trustee Date: 6 October 1831 THIS INDENTURE made this 6th day of October 1831 between William Keaton of the County of Patrick and State of Virginia of the first part Saml. Sharp of the same County and State of the second part, and Abram Staples of the third part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of One Dollar in hand paid by the said Saml. Sharp the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged but more especially in Consideration of debt due by said Keaton to the said A. Staples by note bearing date even with this Indenture for the sum of fifty One dollars Current money of Virginia as will more fully appear refference being had to said note - the said William Keaton hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain & sell alien , enfoeff and Confirm unto the said Saml. Sharp one Certain tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Patrick on the waters of Spoon Creek Containing two hundred acres more or less it being the same Land which the said Keaton purchased of Harry Carter which deed is of record in the Clerks office of Patrick County will more fully show and bounded by the Land of M. Sandefur, James Nowlin decd. Lewis Turner etc. it being the same Land whereon the said Keaton at present resides with its appurtenances to the only proper use behoof and benefit of him the said Saml. Sharp and his heirs forever and the Wm. Keaton doth hereby oblige himself his heirs etc. to warrant and defend the title to the said Land and premises against the Claim or claims of all persons whatsoever either in Law or equity. Also three Cows and two heifer yearlings, one yoke of Oxen, seventeen head of sheep, twentyseven head of hogs with the future increase of all the stock, one blind mare, one feather bed and furniture, several straw beds with their furniture One table, One Cupboard, eight chairs, One Loom two Cotton and one flax wheel together with all other his household and Kitchen furniture of every description and all my plantation utensils. To have and to hold and fully enjoy the same to him the said Saml. Sharp and his heirs forever. In Trust nevertheless that if the said debt aforesaid shall remain due and unpaid on the 1st day of December next the said Saml. Sharp is hereby authorised whenever thereto required by the said A. Staples after giving ten days previous notice of the time and place of sale by advertising at some one or more public places in the County of Patrick to sell the aforesaid tract of Land and property at public auction to the highest bidder for ready money and out of the proceeds thereof first pay the said A. Staples his heirs etc the aforesaid sum of money with the Interest and the costs of recording and Carrying this deed into effect and the surplus if any pay to the said Wm. Keaton or his legal representative. But if the said Wm Keaton his heirs etc. shall well and truly pay the aforesaid debt and Interest together with the Cost of recording of this Indenture by the time aforesaid, then this indenture to be void else to remain in full force and Virtue - - In Witness whereof the said Wm.
