McMillian/Epperson Deed, 1855 - Patrick Co. VA Deed to Abijah McMillian from Daniel Epperson, 1855 Patrick County, Virginia This deed made the 23rd June 1855 between Daniel Epperson and Leatha his wife of the county of Patrick and state of Virginia of the first part and Abijah McMillian of the county of Patrick and state of Virginia of the other part, witnesseth: that for & in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars to him in hand paid, the said Daniel Epperson and Leatha his wife doth grant, bargain & sell unto the said Abijah McMillian a certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred and fifty acres, more or less, it being and lying in the county of Patrick, & state of Virginia on the south side of Clark's Creek, the waters of the Ararat, and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at Chestnut and pointers on an old road N42 W34 poles to a maple on a branch N61/2 W18 poles to pointers in Joseph Smith's line: thence with the same N35 W26 poles to the creek; Thence across the same as it meanders N10 W15 poles, S81 W10 poles, S20 W44 poles, N74 W24. S24 poles S85, N21 W 210, E82 W80 to a maple. Thence crossing the creek and up the branch N15 W14 poles to a maple on the west branch of said branch. Thence leaving the branch S69 W 20 poles to pointers S28 W26 poles to a stake, S23 E15 poles stake, S83 E20 poles to a pine and stake, S8 W24 poles to a bunch of alders in Clay's and King's dividing line S66 E56 poles crossing the creek and with the aforesaid dividing line to a black oak stump, S83 E28 poles to a red oak S25 E63 poles to a red oak in the back line. Thence with the same N65 E70 poles to a pine S20 W22 poles to a chestnut oak on the spur of a little mountain. N52 E88 poles crossing a branch to a chestnut oak N8 E 107 poles to the beginning. For which I bind myself to warrant and defend from all other persons forever. As witnesseth the following signatures and seals. Daniel Epperson [Seal] her Leatha X Epperson {Seal] mark Patrick County to wit: I, a Justice of the Peace of the County aforesaid and state of Virginia, do certify that Leatha Epperson, the wife of Daniel Epperson,, whose names are signed to the writing above, bearing date on the 22th day of June 1855, personally appeared before us in the county aforesaid, & and being examined by us personally & apart from her husband and having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Leatha Epperson acknowledged the said writing to be her act & deed & declared that she has willingly [ ? ]the same and does not wish to retract it.
