VA DEED: Thomas and Lucinda Sharp to Benjamin Spencer, 1831 Patrick Co., Va., Deed Book 7, p. 514 Grantors: Thomas and Lucinda Sharp Grantee: Benjamin Spencer Date: 16 May 1831 Acknowledgement: 24 September 1831 THIS INDENTURE made this 16 day of May in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty One between Thomas Sharp of the County of Patrick and state of Virginia of the One part & Benjamin Spencer of said Cty and state of the other part; Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred & thirty dollars Lawful money of Virginia to him in hand, hath bargained, sold and Confirmed unto the said Benjamin Spencer one certain track or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Patrick on the waters of Mayo river Containing one hundred and eighty four acres by late survey and bounded as follows to wit; Beginning at a forked chesnut tree Joining in Edingtons line it being the corner of the dividing line between said Sharp and Mary Ann Watson, thence with the old line No.13 W.166 poles to a post oak and chesnut tree S.46 W42 to a post oak N46W.109 p. to a white Oak Corner of Praters old line by a branch, with that line N88 W.80 p. crossing said branch to a red oak and white Oak in Rickmans old line with that line S12 W130 p. crossing a branch & the road to pointers, thence a dividing line between said Sharp and said Spencer S.72 E.22 po to a Spanish oak and red oak on the road where Mary Ann Watsons line corners, thence the dividing line between said Mary Ann Watson and sd. Sharp, the same course 228 po crossing Stones Creek to the beginning with all its appertenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining thereunto To have and to hold the same to him the said Benjamin Spencer his heirs and assigns forever do warrant and forever defend the right and title against myself my heirs and all other person or persons either in Law or equity. Hairston Patrick County We Greensville & Thomas Penn Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid do Certify that Thomas Sharp a party to a certain deed bearing date on the 16th day of May 1831 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to Certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Patrick in order that the said deed may be recorded -- Given under our hands and seals this 24th day of Sept. 1831. Patrick County We Greensville & Thomas Penn Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid do hereby certify that Lucinda Sharp the wife of Thomas Sharp parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 16th day of May 1831 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid, and being examined by us privily and apart from her Husband, and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Lucinda Sharp acknowledged the same to be his act & deed and declared that she had willingly signed, sealed & delivered the same and that she wishes not to retract it.
